LONASE Launches LPbet to Counter Foreign Betting Operators
Senegal’s national lottery operator LONASE launched LPbet, a new sports betting and online entertainment service, at a ceremony in Dakar on Thursday, July 2, 2026. The company presented the launch as part of a digital sovereignty strategy aimed at strengthening its position in Senegal’s online betting market.
LONASE Director General Toussaint Manga said LPbet was designed by Senegalese people for Senegalese people. He described the launch as the next step in LONASE’s modernization strategy after LONASE Way.
The ceremony came one day after Senegal’s council of ministers replaced Manga as LONASE director general with Abdourahmane Baldé. Manga still chaired the LPbet launch event in Dakar.
LPbet works on mobile phones and computers. According to its developers, the service relies on payment solutions adapted to the local market and security mechanisms meant to support transaction reliability.
Christopher Sevilla, CEO of Betting Partners, said the project targets players who already bet online rather than new audiences. He said LPbet aims to give Senegalese players a national, regulated alternative to foreign operators in the market.
Beyond player acquisition, Sevilla said the project should help LONASE capture and reinvest more of the value that currently flows through online betting services. More than 25 specialists worked on LPbet, among them teams focused on design, user interface, cybersecurity and adaptation of content to the Senegalese market.
Fatima Zahra Gadio, Director of the LONASE Partners unit, described LPbet as the result of close cooperation between LONASE and Betting Partners. She said the product reflects the state operator’s ambitions for digital transformation.
LPbet’s management team confirmed a gradual rollout of new features, promotional offers and digital services. These additions are meant to improve the product and strengthen LPbet’s position in Senegal’s online betting market.
💡TGJ Take
LPbet is not just another product launch from LONASE. It is a state-backed effort to redirect online betting spend away from foreign operators and into a national structure. For suppliers, local alignment matters in Senegal, especially around payments, cybersecurity and market adaptation. For affiliates, the real question is which foreign brands LONASE will tolerate as competitors and which ones will lose ground in the local betting funnel. Leadership uncertainty at LONASE, days after Baldé’s appointment, adds a layer of execution risk worth watching.
