FanDuel Sets Soccer Betting Record on USA-Belgium World Cup Clash
FanDuel said Monday’s World Cup match between the US and Belgium generated the highest number of active bettors and the highest betting volume of any soccer match on its site, according to Bloomberg. Belgium won 4-1 and eliminated the US from the tournament.
More than twice as many people bet on the match than on FanDuel’s previous biggest pre-World Cup soccer game, Bloomberg reported. Total wagers rose 72% compared with the first US match of the tournament. FanDuel, a Flutter Entertainment division, did not disclose specific figures.
The record came amid a stronger World Cup cycle for US soccer betting overall. Higher TV viewership and betting activity have accompanied the tournament. Games take place in North America and air at times local fans can watch, which has helped drive demand.
By contrast with 2022, more US states now offer online sports betting, and this has widened operators’ addressable base for the current tournament.
Another element that stood out, per Macquarie data cited by Bloomberg, was that prediction market apps Kalshi and Polymarket also reached record betting volumes during the tournament.
Two recent product launches supported FanDuel’s soccer activity. SuperSub lets customers keep a bet in place if a player is substituted, while 120-Minute Markets extends wagers into overtime.
💡TGJ Take
FanDuel’s record shows the 2026 World Cup is converting US soccer attention into measurable betting activity. The key point for operators is not just that the US played in a major knockout game. It’s that product design kept betting options live around soccer-specific moments such as substitutions and overtime. Without exact handle figures, the comparison stays directional, but the signal is clear: soccer now ranks as a more serious sportsbook vertical in the US when timing, market access, and product depth align.
