Play’n GO Enters Alberta Ahead of Regulated Market Launch
Play’n GO said on May 22 that the Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Commission (AGLC) had granted it a licence to supply online casino content in the province. The approval gives the Swedish game provider early access to a market set to open its regulated online market later in 2026.
The licence allows Play’n GO to offer its casino titles to licensed operators in Alberta. The company said it has already aligned its technology and game portfolio with Alberta’s regulatory requirements, with an initial batch of titles now in certification.
Alberta marks a third regulated Canadian market for Play’n GO, which already has a presence in Ontario and Quebec. The company described the approval as part of its wider North American expansion strategy, centred on licensed markets and operator partnerships.
Magnus Olsson, Chief Commercial Officer of Play’n GO, said the Alberta licence “further strengthens” the company’s presence in Canada and supports its focus on regulated jurisdictions with player protection standards.
For Alberta operators, the approval adds another major game provider to the content mix ahead of launch. For Play’n GO, the move secures early presence in a market that could become Canada’s next key provincial iGaming opening after Ontario.
TGJ Take
Alberta is not live yet, but supplier approvals matter now. Operators that plan for launch will want certified content ready on day one, and Play’n GO chose to act early rather than wait for the market to open. For rival game providers, the message is clear: Alberta’s pre-launch window is already competitive. The suppliers that complete certification first will have a stronger chance at early operator integrations.
