OLG Partners with mkodo and Bede Gaming to Add Geolocation Tech

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation brought mkodo’s GeoLocs into its digital operations. The move extended an existing relationship, as mkodo had already worked with OLG and Bede Gaming on app development. The three companies set a joint goal of improving technical reliability and compliance over the years to come.

Ontario is Canada’s only regulated multi-licence province. Alberta has confirmed July 13 as its open market launch date, which would make it the second. OLG competes in the Ontario market against FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Bet99, BetVictor, and bet365, among others. The corporation recently added Kambi to support its sportsbook operations.

Alan D’Cunha, Senior Director of Digital Delivery and Release Train at OLG, said accuracy and reliability in geolocation are critical. He added that mkodo has proven its capability in this area. Moreover, Will Whitehead, Commercial Director at mkodo, pointed to Ontario’s regulatory demands as the reason this partnership matters.

TGJ Take

Geolocation is a licence requirement in Ontario, and Alberta brings in the same rule on July 13. OLG met that requirement through an existing vendor with no delay. Operators headed to Alberta must do the same, and they have until mid-April. Alberta iGaming Corp signs contracts then, and any operator without a working system by that date will miss the July 13 launch.
