Alberta Lists 28 iGaming Operators for July 13 Launch
Alberta’s regulated online gambling market is set to go live on July 13, with 28 operators listed by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission as having completed or begun the province’s licensing process. The province will become Canada’s second regulated iGaming jurisdiction after Ontario opened its market in April 2022.
BetRivers, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, and theScore Bet have already launched pre-registration campaigns ahead of the opening date.
The list includes major North American brands alongside government-run PlayAlberta and Canadian-owned operators including BET99, Betty Gaming, CasinoTime, and River Cree iGaming, which also operates land-based casino properties in Alberta.
Operators Prepare Multi-Brand Launches
Several operators are preparing multi-brand launches. Caesars will offer Caesars Sportsbook, Caesars Palace Online, and Horseshoe Online Casino. Super Group has six brands listed: Betway, JackpotCity, Spin Casino, Royal Vegas, Ruby Fortune, and Grizzly’s Quest. DraftKings will operate alongside Golden Nugget Online Gaming, while Bally’s Canada will bring BallyBet Sportsbook and Casino and Monopoly Casino and Sportsbook.
FanDuel, owned by Flutter Entertainment, is expected to offer casino, sports betting, and poker through PokerStars on FanDuel after consolidating PokerStars operations in North America. BetMGM, the joint venture between MGM Resorts International and Entain, is also preparing casino, sports betting, and poker products. In Ontario, BetMGM’s poker brand and PartyPoker operate separately while sharing player liquidity, and a similar structure may be introduced in Alberta.
AGLC has also approved 22 Critical Gaming Service Providers ahead of launch, including IGT and Light&Wonder.
Some expected operators do not appear on the current list. Bet365, Soft2Bet, TonyBet, GGPoker, 888, NorthStar Gaming, and PowerPlay are absent, despite prior indications that some intended to enter Alberta. Regulators have indicated that additional operators may join after the market opens.
The Alberta government estimates the regulated market could generate approximately CAD $100 million in annual tax revenue while shifting activity from gray-market operators into the legal system.
The launch date falls inside a busy sports window. The World Cup final is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium, while Week 7 of the Canadian Football League season begins July 18 with the Calgary Stampeders hosting the Montreal Alouettes.
Google’s revised gambling advertising policy adds another commercial factor. Under the updated rules announced this week, licensed gambling operators are now permitted to run Google advertisements in Alberta.
The expansion has also drawn criticism from First Nations casino operators, who have raised concerns that online gaming growth could reduce revenue at community casinos that fund local programs and services.
💡 TGJ Take
Alberta’s launch gives early-listed operators a clear first-mover advantage. Caesars, Super Group, and DraftKings are not treating this as a single-brand market entry; they are using multiple products to capture casino and sportsbook traffic before latecomers arrive. For affiliates, the July timing matters because the World Cup final gives launch-ready brands an immediate acquisition window. The First Nations revenue concern is the main political risk to watch after launch.
