Kalshi Traders Cut WSOP 10K Entry Odds Ahead of July Start
Kalshi traders are increasingly betting that the 2026 World Series of Poker Main Event will stay below 10,000 entries, with the market now pricing the over at around 35% ahead of the July 2 start in Las Vegas. The shift comes as live poker events across the US and Europe report lower turnout numbers in 2026, and players face higher gambling-related tax costs in the US.
Trading activity increased after WSOP opened registration through the WSOP+ app on May 8. More than $8,000 has traded since then, accounting for roughly a quarter of the market’s total $34,000 volume since January. Early registration numbers remain low, but most players traditionally wait until arriving in Las Vegas before committing the $10,000 Main Event buy-in.
The concern for operators is not just the WSOP number itself. Several major tournaments have already reported smaller fields this year, including WPT Rolling Thunder, which fell from 404 entries to 310, and EPT Monte Carlo, which dropped from 828 to 702. If the WSOP also reports lower turnout, operators may need to review guarantees, satellite schedules, and staffing plans for the second half of 2026.
Operators and affiliates will now watch turnout numbers from the first large-field WSOP events for clearer signals. Registration for the Monster Stack closes on June 7, the Colossus closes on June 13, and the Millionaire Maker closes on June 20. These events drew thousands of entries in recent years and will give the market a better read on player traffic before Main Event registration closes on July 7.
TGJ Take
If the WSOP Main Event finishes below 10,000 entries again, operators can no longer treat lower 2026 turnout numbers as a short-term dip. Players are already cutting schedules at other live series, and higher tax costs in the US are adding more pressure on bankrolls. For tournament operators, this means guarantees, staffing, and satellite volumes may not perform at 2023 or 2024 levels during the rest of the year. Affiliates focused on poker should pay close attention to the first large-field WSOP events, as those numbers will likely set the tone for live poker traffic through Q3.
