MGA Pushes Operators to Review EU AML Consultations
The Malta Gaming Authority has called on authorised persons to review and respond to two new consultations launched by the EU Anti-Money Laundering Authority. The consultations cover draft rules on business-wide AML risk assessments and group-wide requirements under the AMLR.
AMLA Sets New Consultation Deadlines
The first consultation covers draft guidelines on how obliged entities should identify and assess money laundering and terrorist financing risks across their operations. A public hearing will take place on 28 May 2026, with feedback due by 15 July 2026.
The second consultation focuses on draft RTS for group-wide AML requirements. Its public hearing is scheduled for 20 May 2026, with responses due by 15 June 2026.
The MGA also reminded operators that earlier AMLA consultations on customer due diligence, business relationships, occasional and linked transactions, and lower thresholds close on 8 May 2026.
💡 TGJ Take
This is a practical compliance check for operators, not just an EU consultation process. AMLA is moving toward clearer common standards, and the MGA wants licensees involved before the rules are final. Groups with several entities or licences should review where their AML controls differ across the business.
