Caixa Pulls Pix Cash Services from Brazil’s Lottery Outlets
Caixa Econômica Federal suspended Pix Saque and Pix Troco at all licensed lottery outlets across Brazil in March 2026. Febralot, the national union of lottery operators, responded immediately. The union warned the decision puts thousands of small businesses at financial risk.
Pix Saque allows customers to withdraw cash directly at a lottery counter after a Pix transaction. Pix Troco lets customers pay more than the purchase amount and receive the difference in cash. Both services had grown in volume every year since 2021, according to the source report.
Febralot said lottery outlets depend on these banking services to maintain cash flow. The union called the timing critical, as operators already face pressure from the rise of online gaming. The two services also drove foot traffic and reduced the amount of cash held on site, which lowered security risk for operators.
Caixa has issued no statement on whether the suspension is permanent or temporary. Febralot has requested urgent talks with the bank to reverse the decision.
The Banco Central do Brasil has not withdrawn regulatory support for Pix Saque and Pix Troco. The suspension applies only to lottery outlets. Other commercial entities can still offer both services. They must meet minimum infrastructure, staffing, and contract requirements set by the central bank.
TGJ Take
This is a serious problem for Brazil’s lottery network, and Caixa has offered no explanation. Lottery outlets had added banking services to offset the revenue lost to online gaming. That income source is now cut. Febralot needs a clear answer from Caixa before mid-year. Operators who get no resolution will face a cash flow problem that ticket sales alone will not fix.
