Brightstar Extends Lottotech Deal Into Third Decade with Full Tech Overhaul
Brightstar Lottery has extended its contract with Lottotech, operator of the Mauritius National Lottery, in a deal that marks the supplier’s third consecutive decade as its exclusive retail lottery technology partner. The renewed multi-year agreement, announced May 12, covers both a central system upgrade and a full hardware refresh across Lottotech’s retail network.
Under the deal, Brightstar will deploy an advanced lottery central system and replace existing terminals with its latest RetailerPro S2 units on the company’s OpenRetail software. Built on a single code line, OpenRetail deploys updates and new features simultaneously across all point-of-sale devices. The RetailerPro S2 supports multiple player-facing displays and a broad range of peripherals.
Moorghen Veeramootoo, Lottotech CEO, framed the central system upgrade as a resilience move rather than a routine hardware refresh, with direct reference to the need for “greater agility, flexibility, and disaster tolerance.”
Marco Tasso, Brightstar COO for International and Italy Operations, confirmed the company has held the exclusive technology partnership since Lottotech’s inception. Brightstar did not disclose a contract value or deployment timeline.
TGJ Take
The third-decade renewal without a visible competitive tender is what lottery suppliers will take note of. Once a tech provider is embedded in a national lottery’s central infrastructure, switching costs (operational, regulatory, and financial) make retention the default outcome. The explicit reference to “disaster tolerance” in Lottotech’s statement suggests resilience gaps have been on management’s radar, and likely accelerated this upgrade cycle. For Brightstar, Mauritius is a small market by revenue, but a third-decade exclusive reference case carries weight in African lottery procurement conversations, where trust and continuity matter more than price.
