About DraftKings

DraftKings Inc. is an American digital sports entertainment and gaming company. The company was established almost 15 years ago. Today, the group operates across online sports betting, iGaming, daily fantasy sports, and digital lottery. Its products are available in the majority of US states with regulated markets.

DraftKings went public in April 2020 through a three-way merger with Diamond Eagle Acquisition Corp and sports betting technology firm SBTech, valued at $2,7 billion. The merger created the only vertically integrated US sports betting and online gaming company at the time. The SBTech acquisition gave DraftKings full ownership of its technology stack and differentiated its operational model from most US-facing competitors that rely on third-party platforms. Subsequent acquisitions expanded the product footprint: DraftKings acquired Golden Nugget Online Gaming in an all-stock transaction that closed in May 2022, adding a second iGaming brand and live dealer capabilities. The group later acquired Jackpocket, which, according to its SEC filings, is the leading digital lottery courier app in the United States.

DraftKings is an official sports betting and daily fantasy partner of the NFL, NHL, PGA TOUR, UFC, NASCAR (an official sports betting partner of the NBA), and an authorised gaming operator of MLB. These league partnerships are central to the group’s customer acquisition and brand positioning strategy. FY2024 marked DraftKings’ first-ever positive adjusted EBITDA, totalling $181,3 million, a milestone after several years of significant investment losses incurred during market expansion.

Market Position & Regulatory Footprint

DraftKings Sportsbook is live with mobile and/or retail sports betting in 28 states in the US, including in Washington, D.C. The company operates iGaming in five states and in Ontario under its DraftKings brand, and in four states under its Golden Nugget Online Gaming brand. DraftKings’ daily fantasy sports product is available in 44 states, the District of Columbia, and certain Canadian provinces. Regulatory licences are held across a range of state-level bodies, including the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, the Michigan Gaming Control Board, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. The two-state iGaming concentration – New Jersey and Michigan are the largest markets – reflects the limited number of US states that have to date authorised online casino gaming.

For B2B suppliers, platform vendors, and potential commercial partners, DraftKings’ vertical integration is the defining structural characteristic. The group builds and owns its core sportsbook and iGaming technology rather than licensing it from third parties, thereby concentrating procurement decisions and reducing the addressable supplier base for certain technology categories. DraftKings describes itself as the only US-based vertically integrated sports betting operator, a claim rooted in its proprietary trading, risk, and platform infrastructure inherited from SBTech. Affiliates and data providers should note the group’s scale: With more than 30 million customers engaging across its DFS, sportsbook, and iGaming products, DraftKings represents one of the largest single addressable audiences in North American digital gaming.
